PDHPE

Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

Primary school sports association

All students are given the opportunity to trial for primary school sports association (PSSA) teams. All students are advised that and that there is a possibility that they may not make the final team.

We understand that missing out on selection in a PSSA team can be upsetting. However, it is a great effort for students to make the training squads. We encourage all students to have a go at sport and hope that those who do miss out this year will try again next year.

For those students who do make PSSA teams the Botany Bay PSSA district follows a strict code of conduct for students, teachers and parents and caregivers who participate in any zone PSSA activities including carnivals, team sports and representative trials. All students, teachers and parents and caregivers will be required to sign and abide by the code of conduct at all times.

Botany Bay PSSA officials and coaches are school teachers, not professional coaches, who do their best to ensure that all children are given the chance to participate and reach their full potential in a safe and fair sporting environment.

The values of Botany Bay PSSA sport are:

  • teamwork
  • participation
  • fair play
  • effort
  • enjoyment
  • respect.
