Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

SRE & SEE at Brighton-Le-Sands Public School

At Brighton-Le-Sands Public School, SRE and SEE is delivered on Friday. 

Classes for students in Years 3 - 6 run from 1:10pm - 1:40pm and classes for K-2 students run from 2:05pm  - 2:35pm.  

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE and SEE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE/SEE Change Form should be given to the school office staff, in writing.

Students not attending SRE or SEE are supervised in a separate space. These students are free to choose alternative, meaningful activities, include reading, drawing, private study or homework completion.

 

SRE/SEE Options

The following options are available at Brighton-Le-Sands Public School.

  • Catholic SRE is provided by the parish of St Thomas More, Brighton-Le-Sands. More information about Catholic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, is found on the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney website.
  • Orthodox SRE is provided by the Greek Orthodox Parish and Community of Kogarah. More information about Greek Orthodox SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, is found on the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia website..
  • Protestant SRE is provided by teachers who are authorised and trained by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. The curriculum can be viewed at whysre.com.au.
  • Muslim SRE is provided by the approved scripture provider, the Al-Jaafaria Shia Islamic Centre. More information can be found on the Al-Jaafaria website.
